If your eyes often feel tired, scratchy, or uncomfortable by the end of the day, dry eye may be a contributing factor. Many patients describe the symptoms of dry eye disease as feeling like there is sand or grit stuck in the eye, especially after long hours on screens, driving, spending time outdoors, or sitting in air conditioning.
Dry eye symptoms can come and go throughout the day. Some people notice discomfort only while reading or working at a computer, while others struggle with irritation almost constantly. When the tear film becomes unstable, the surface of the eye can become irritated, inflamed, and less comfortable throughout the day.
